Soft Palate Resection

Does your short-snouted dog snore? Although this can be humorous at times, in many cases, breathing can be impaired and become dangerous for these dogs, especially in hot weather, while exercising your dog, or as the dog advances in age.

Dogs with this condition include, but are not limited to, brachycephalic breeds like bulldogs, Boston terriers, pugs, Shih Tzus, Pekinese and other breeds with pushed in snouts. In addition, many of these breeds also have Stenotic Nares, a condition where the nostrils are pushed together and also restrict air flow. Dr. Brown has been trained by the veterinarian who corrects these conditions in the University of Georgia’s bulldog mascots. He uses a surgical procedure called Soft Palate Resection and also opens up the nostrils to repair the stenotic nares. He has been doing this surgery for many years with great success.
